Firechill eco-cooling products capture waste heat

Two new products have been created which are energy efficient and can provide significant cost savings of between 15% and 60% depending on application. When operating at its most efficient and in a Combined Cooling Heat and Power environment, each carbon-cutting system offers a reduction of up to 40 tonnes of CO2 per year.

Firechill products will challenge the traditional air-con market by offering new applications to solve climate and energy-related problems. Areas that are hot, crowded, have plentiful gas and which suffer from interrupted electricity supply, will benefit from the green technology harnessed by Firechill.

Both the Firechill AC 500 and the Firechill ALT 500 work using thermally-activated cooling technology, with the chilling units operating through gas or waste heat but it is the ability of the ALT 500 to capture waste heat from a micro-turbine that provides the wide range of potential applications from reducing the load on supermarket refrigeration to water supply.

Simon Clothier, Chief Executive, Phase 37 Ltd, said: “Growing awareness of climate change and the need for genuine solutions to really tackle the issue has been a driving factor in the development of the revolutionary Firechill systems which use energy-efficient technology to cut carbon emissions. Even more importantly these products are trialled and tested – they are not still on the drawing board.”

As well as environmentally designed, the Firechill products are compact and simple to install, with implementation complete in a day. They are quieter than their traditional counterparts and the lack of water tower reduces maintenance costs and removes associated hazardous health risks. Unlike other cooling products they also work very efficiently in high temperatures.

Firechill is expected to access the global market and has considerable potential across the sunbelt. Wider expansion and further sustainable product development is planned to incorporate solar energy to power the units – cutting carbon emissions during solar operation.

Mr Clothier continues: “There is clearly a market for the Firechill eco cooling products. With enquiries for 16,000 systems already in the pipeline from prospective buyers, we’re confident that with further investment, we can maximise the global market potential these products offer.”

Firechill is a joint venture between Leeds-based, Phase 37, which specialises in bringing fast-growth emerging companies to market, and Cooling Technologies Inc an Ohio-based company with expertise in the development of energy-efficient chiller and flexible heating and control solutions.
