New energy efficient affordable homes in Greenwich will meet Level 5 of the Code for Sustainable Homes
Seven new energy efficient affordable homes are being constructed at Gallon Close in Greenwich, South London, for Family Mosaic. The homes are being built by Osborne and will meet Level 5 of the Code for Sustainable Homes. The project follows Osborne’s Mid Street development in Surrey which was the UK’s first 100% affordable Code 5 housing. Osborne is also working on a Code 6 development near Woking in Surrey.
Gallon Close is in an urban location and careful planning and design has been required in order to implement the most suitable technologies. The homes will benefit from improved thermal performance provided by Innovaré Systems i-SIP (Structural Insulated Panels). The i-SIP building system provides extremely high levels of sustainability, thermal efficiency to minimise heat loss and significantly reduce the energy demands and carbon emissions of buildings.
Warm air heating and domestic hot water will be provided by air source heat pumps and renewable electricity will be generated via photo voltaic roof tiles. These look very similar to ordinary roof tiles and can be integrated in exactly the same way as interlocking concrete roof tiles.
Peter Head, Managing Director of Osborne Homes Division said: “We are delighted to be working with Family Mosaic again. Gallon Close forms the next step in the quest to provide truly sustainable housing. Careful liaison throughout the design stage between BPTW Architects, Osborne and Innovaré has resulted in a successful planning submission for this Code 5 development.”
