Campbell Scientific selects ZephIR wind lidar technology for US wind market(29/12/2011)
Campbell Scientific Inc. (CSI), with more than 35 years of world-class measurement equipment experience, has today announced the selection of wind lidar system ZephIR 300 as the company’s remote sensing solution for providing the US wind energy market with accurate wind data across all stages of a wind farm development project. ZephIR 300, provided by Zephir Ltd., a subsidiary of renewable energy group Natural Power, has demonstrated high quality measurements across many hundreds of deploymen... [more]
SeaRoc to supply and commission meteorological towers for Dogger Bank offshore wind farm site (24/10/2011)
SeaRoc has announced it will project-manage the supply, installation and commissioning of two lattice meteorological towers in accordance with a specification provided by Forewind – the consortium responsible for developing UK Round 3 offshore wind farm site Dogger Bank. The announcement is part of a wider offering by Fred Olsen United AS to supply Forewind with the innovative suction bucket foundation designed by Universal Foundation A/S, and fabricated by Belfast shipyard Harland and Wolff... Natural Power deploys dual-mode ZephIR 300 wind lidar with the Centre for Wind Energy Technology in Chennai, India(22/09/2011)
Natural Power's dual-mode ZephIR 300 wind lidar can be used in a traditional ground based application pointing vertically for wind resource assessment, or directed in front or behind a wind turbine to study incident wind fields and resulting turbine wakes. This new platform of wind lidar – a ‘dual-mode’ ZephIR 300 – was designed and developed by Natural Power to meet Centre for Wind Energy Technology (CWET)'s requirements to assess a range of wind measurements. Two variations of ZephIR so... [more]
Natural Power's ZephIR 300 lidar system successfully tested in LM Windpower's wind tunnel(12/09/2011)
Natural Power's ZephIR 300 – a lidar system for measuring wind speed and characteristics from ground level up to 200 metres - has been tested in LM Windpower’s wind tunnel in Denmark and successfully measured wind speeds from 5m/s to 75 m/s with an averaged difference of just 0.4% for a sustained period of time and across all measured speeds. Natural Power has demonstrated matched performance of its continuous wave wind lidar, ZephIR, to a calibrated wind tunnel as part of a Danish National ... [more]
Forewind deploys ZephIR 300 lidar to provide wind measurement data for the Dogger Bank wind farm(21/07/2011)
The Forewind consortium (RWE npower renewables, SSE, Statoil and Statkraft) have selected Natural Power’s ZephIR 300 to provide the first high-quality wind data measurements in close proximity to the Dogger Bank Zone – the largest of the UK’s Round 3 zones with the potential for up to 13GW of installed capacity. The first of various consents required for the Dogger Bank project is anticipated around late 2014. Wind resource assessment lidar ZephIR 300, a Natural Power product, has been deploy... [more]
GE's new membrane bioreactor wastewater treatment technology addresses pressing water quality and operational cost issues(11/07/2011)
Following a four-year development effort, GE has now introduced a new membrane bioreactor (MBR) wastewater treatment technology called LEAP*mbr, which addresses pressing water quality and operational cost issues faced by owners of municipal, industrial and residential water/wastewater treatment facilities worldwide. The new LEAPmbr system offers the lowest lifecycle costs available from any MBR technology, while also being cost-competitive with conventional treatment. These cost savings, alon... [more]
Natural Power's free web based service provides an estimation of wind flow complexity on potential wind farm sites(27/12/2010)
As potential development sites with simple, flat terrain become fewer and fewer, more and more projects are built in, or near, forests and complex terrain. It is these complex flow sites that are often associated with harsh wind conditions likely to affect wind turbine performance. For example, complex terrain can induce large values of turbulence and high loads on wind turbine blades. As a result, there are increasing concerns about under-performing wind farms: maintenance costs are higher t... [more]
Zummer homes achieve zero dependence on fossil fuels(15/01/2010)
By incorporating eco-conscious elements behind every door, wall, floor and window and in every nook and cranny, Zummer homes achieve zero dependence on fossil fuels such as oil and natural gas and are 100% off the electrical grid. In fact, owners receive checks from the their local electric provider by selling unused electricity back to the company. Living in a green, energy free home, one with zero dependency on oil, gas or local utility companies, is now affordable and fashionable with the ... [more]
Commercially viable zero carbon house at Ecobuild(06/12/2007)
Zedfactory’s zero carbon house at Ecobuild will demonstrate that commercially viable zero carbon construction is not a myth. Anticipated to reach the Code for Sustainable Homes Level 6 standard, the full-size house at Ecobuild will reveal the design features, materials and systems that combine to make zero carbon housing a reality. The output of the recently-formed RuralZed consortium which includes Aggregate, Rationel, Rockwool, Zedfactory and Green Carbon, a terraced version of the house is... [more]
