The photovoltaic industry faces various challenges such as fierce competition and consolidations – both are causes for some concern. But there is even more evidence of opportunity. With a broadening international market, it is being increasingly recognised that the photovoltaic industry is here to stay. The European Photovoltaic Technology Platform estimates that the PV industry has the potential to create more than 200,000 jobs in the European Union by 2020 and ten times this number worldwide.
Redland, part of the Monier Group, has strengthened its position as a technology leader for the interface of PV products to pitched roofs by acquiring Schott Solar’s InDaX technology for the manufacture of roof-integrated photovoltaics.
The contract was signed on 16 August 2012, and, in addition to the framing technology, includes the rights to use the InDaX name, as well as patents related to the product. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The compositions of pastes used to metalize solar cells may vary greatly. This applies not only to the actual metal content (silver or aluminum powder), but to other additives as well, which are instrumental to the printing properties of the paste, as well as its drying and sintering characteristics. These materials may amount to as much as 25% by weight, where the greatest portion consists of the organic medium into which the solid materials are dispersed (powdered metal, metal oxides and inorg...
