Students from Stanford University in California have developed a cutting-edge design that can increase the efficiency of photovoltaic panels through the use of a new kind of electrodes. This technology won the recent Massachusetts Institute of Technology Clean Energy Prize. The electrode technology was a product of a team named C3Nano, which was comprised of postgraduate chemical engineering scientists from Stanford. Element Power has successfully secured a €18.5m debt facility for its 3.51MW PV solar project in Alicante, Spain. The 17-year facility was provided by Triodos Bank following Element Power’s acquisition of the project, which commenced operations in August 2008. The project, built by Siliken Energy and comprising Siliken crystalline modules, generates clean renewable power under the Feed In Tariff governed by Spain’s Royal Decree 661/2007.

Enecsys Limited has launched the first solar PV grid-connected micro-inverter for both the European and North American markets. A solar PV system based on Enecsys micro-inverters will have improved energy harvest and therefore cut the cost of harvested power by up to 20% over the lifetime of the installation compared with a conventional system using string inverters.

Evergreen Solar, Inc. has announced that an 8-megawatt power plant in Neustrelitz, Germany used more than 7 megawatts of panels manufactured by Evergreen Solar. It is Evergreen Solar’s largest installation in company history.
